Nobunaga's Ambition is actually a RPG that is on multiple gaming platforms in Japan - according to Wikipedia, "Nobunaga's Ambition is a series of turn-based grand strategy role-playing simulation video games, first released in 1983 by the Japanese video game developer Koei. Nobunaga's Ambition takes place during the Sengoku period of feudal Japan. As the title suggests, the player is tasked with achieving the ultimate goal of warlord Oda Nobunaga: the conquest and unification of Japan. Selecting Oda Nobunaga is optional, however, as the player is also able to choose from a variety of other regional daimyos of the time."

Obviously, this new DS game will use the above premise but with a Pokemon theme. It seems it will be a sort of Pokemon game that takes place in the past with ancient Pokemon Trainers using their Pokemon. The male and female players will start out with Eevee.
The names of the bushou, who appear to be older military soldiers that you battle, are Oichi (the girl with Jigglypuff), Mitsuhide (Articuno), Shingen (Groudon), and Kenshin (Mewtwo). As was already obvious, Nobunaga is the man with Zekrom. Are they the sort of "Gym Leaders?"

A turn-based RPG crossover game set in an older Japan where your objective is to rise through the ranks and rule Japan? Sounds intriguing. The gameplay sounds like something from Fire Emblem. Also, the music from the main site sounds nice.

Discuss!

"Nintendo, why u no use 3DS?" - Everyone on Facebook

Seriously though, such a random concept makes this awesome. Insert Dynasty Warriors-like tracks, and I'm completely sold on the idea.

Close enough. I haven't played any FFT games but I'm sure I'll enjoy it just the same. It looks like Luminous Arc, which I have played though and has been compared to FFT.

also da fuq with the banner there's all these legendary pokemonz and then BAM JIGGLYPUFF.

I've played Nobunaga's Ambition before. On the Game Boy, actually. Loved that game. The gameplay worked in a way where you had troops, cavalry, riflemen, so on, and you moved them around the field certain amounts based on their class. Then you attacked, and their health went from 9 down to 0 with each attack, as I recall. And I think if you had them surrounded, you got another type of attack where everybody attacked at once, for each of their turns. That might be Romance of the Three Kingdoms though, which had an awful battle system.

Anyways. I'll get this, if not just to see how the hell they combine the depressing Nobunaga's Ambition games and the happy-go-lucky Pokemon games. My subjects dying of the plague will be a fun thing to see Pokefied.

Edit: And I just remembered, the game is also about politics and maintaining your land and relationships with other lords. I was disappointed to see that you automatically oppose the other lords. I loved maintaining alliances.

New trailer.

Doesn't really feature much, except that your Pkmn can evolve, short cuts can be made around opponents by specific Pkmn, and the game (in Japan) comes with a shiny Rayquaza card, based on Nobunaga's Rayquaza in the game, apparently. Didn't know Nobunaga was actually a person, to be honest.
Stupid Rayquaza.

The Nobunaga story is indeed a true story, as are some of the names. Every game using the setting and characters are all based on it. The only difference is that the developers had to make it entertaining SOMEHOW, so they have random war battles inbetween the plot.

I don't know for sure if the battles themselves happened though.

Eh, I'm not too interested in this, though it does look like it could be a good game.

I doubt it'll get released here. Nobunaga's Ambition is Japan-only, so yeah.

Somewhat not true. It was released on the NA Virtual Console in April 2009.

And with the Pokemon label, I'm sure folks would gobble this up with little issue.
