Zelda Skyward Sword Plot
Link, in Skyward Sword, is born and raised in a place called Sky Loft. What makes Sky Loft unique is that it is high up in the clouds. Though this sounds weird to the average person, Link finds it to be highly normal. However, when land is discovered underneath the clouds everything begins to change for Link. For this newly found land is ruled by evil forces and Link ends up drawn into a fight to change that. In Skyward Sword, Link will have to travel back and forth between Sky Loft and this newly found land to complete his adventure. To do so, he will get help from the Skyward Sword…the very sword that will later become the Master Sword.
Early Development
In a 2007 interview Eiji Aonuma was asked if Twilight Princess would be the Nintendo Wii’s one and only Zelda title (originally a gamecube game). He replied to the question by saying “I can’t say, but I guess for now, maybe yeah. Not to say that it’s going to be the final game. There’s still a lot of potential with the Wii so there’s still a possibility that there could be another Zelda for it. We do have some ideas in the works, but I can’t say for sure because none of them have been approved and we’re still very much in the planning process, so I hope you look forward to whatever comes out.”
Later at E3 2007, Eiji Aonuma was in a private meeting when he announced details on The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and a little bit on the legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. He, unfortunately, was held from giving too much information on the game by Shigeru Miyamoto. Fortunately, Eiji did let slip information about how he wanted to have a whole new control system for the game, he also commented on how it would be possible that one-to-one swordplay could be included, and that he would like the game to be appealing to both the casual and hardcore gamer. Miyamoto was in an interview at a later date and was also mentioning how the game should be appealing to both forms of gamer.
Shigeru Miyamoto is quoted as saying that Twilight Princess is “Without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form.” This particular quote could be interpreted several ways but Eiji Aonuma recently stated that he is searching to alter the “traditional flow” of Zelda games. This flow that Eiji speaks of consists of how the game is played based on where you go and what you do.
During E3 2008, Miyamoto confirmed the existence of another Zelda title that was being produced alongside skyward sword. This game was soon to be known as Spirit tracks which was created by a separate team and released before the end of 2009.
During a round-table at the E3 2009 Convention, Shigeru Miyamoto informed everyone that Skyward Sword would be announced at E3 2010 the following year. During the convention a poster image was leaked out and it was the first real piece of art to be seen with the skyward sword art style. In the poster link (our hero) is right handed, and sword less. The fact that link wasn’t holding a sword lead people to believe that the mysterious female looking individual was a representation of the master sword. She also bears resemblance to that of the fairy queen. Miyamoto later admitted that Skyward Sword’s version of link is older than those of past titles, he also placed an emphasis on our hero’s lack of a sword when questioned about the girl in the image of the leaked artwork.
